South Suburban Family Shelter celebrates 30 years with an evening gala. Celebrate with the Brazilian sounds of Swing Brasileiro and their Samba dancers. Enjoy silent auction complete with sports tickets and memorabilia, theater packages, jewelry, dining certificates, spa packages and more. A street party atmosphere will include stilt walkers, magician and caricature artists. Festive, colorful attire is encourage along with your favorite Carnivale mask. The most creative mask will win a special prize.

Tickets are $100 each person and includes open bar.

Abuser Intervention Facilitator 20-Hour Training
June 24-26, 2010
The Abuser Intervention 20-hour Training is offered twice a year at South Suburban Family Shelter. This training is designed for those interested in working with domestic violence offenders or professionals in the field. The topics covered include a history of partner abuse intervention programs in Illinois, intervention models, implementing a curriculum and group dynamics. Participants can expect to learn best practices in co-facilitation of groups and the role of a facilitator. Completion of the 20-hour training is required for those working with domestic violence perpetrators. SSFS is a recognized 20-hour training site by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Fees:
$125 each person
Group discounts are available. Register early, space is limited.

ICDVP Certification Test Prep & IDVA Review
August 19, 2010
The training will include a review of current IDVA legislation and highlight areas of state and federal law likely to be included on the ICDVP certification exam. The featured presenter, Jan Russell, J.D., ICDVP, has been working in the field of domestic violence for more than 25 years. In 1994 Jan created a program within the Chicago Police Department-the only program of its kind in the country-to provide direct services to victims of domestic violence who are abused by members of the department. She continues to serve as an advocate in that program. Jan is a highly rated trainer on domestic violence issues and has provided information to more than 15,000 professionals including police officers, lawyers, and advocates.

Domestic Violence 40-Hour Training
August 2010

  South Suburban Family Shelter offers a state approved Domestic Violence 40-hour Training. The training is offered 4 times per year and includes a wide range of topics and discussion. Upon completion of the program participants have a comprehensive understanding of domestic violence. Police departments, school districts, faith communities and other social service agencies are encouraged to attend. CEU's offered!

Fees:
Individuals $250
Groups of 3 or more $150 each
