Safe from the Start program is designed to provide services to children ages birth through 5 who have personally experienced violence or have witnessed violence. These children and their families are eligible for services free of charge.
Services offered in English and Spanish include:
Infant/Parent Sessions
Infant/parent sessions focus on the parent/child relationship and how the child's exposure to trauma affects the development process.
Parenting Classes
Classes focus on the developmental stages of children and age-appropriate parenting techniques.
Children's Counseling
Through the use of play and art therapy, sessions will focus on the child's perception of the traumatic event and alleviation of symptoms.
Adult Counseling
Parents of children birth through age 5 who have been exposed to violence may be eligible to receive counseling services. Sessions will focus on issues such as the parent's reaction to the child's traumatic event, the parent's ability to foster the child's healing and reestablish a sense of safety for the child, and education on how children are affected by violence.
Family Counseling
Children and their parents may be eligible to participate in family counseling sessions. These sessions will focus on the parent/child relationship.
